How to Migrate an Unturned Server

Move worlds, Workshop content and plugin data with a rollback path.

Updated August 2026Vendor-neutralOfficial-documentation checked
Back up the instance and stop the server before changing configuration or plugins.

Inventory first

Record the Unturned version, server ID, map, ports, startup flags, Workshop IDs, framework version, plugins, database credentials and scheduled tasks.

Create a consistent backup

Announce maintenance, stop the old server cleanly and copy the entire server instance. At minimum preserve Servers/<server-id>, Workshop configuration, Rocket or OpenMod directories and external databases.

Restore on the target

Install a compatible server version, upload the archive, restore permissions and configure the same server ID. Recreate allocations and firewall rules; do not assume the old port is open.

Validate before DNS changes

Start privately, check the world, inventories, permissions, plugins and database connections, then test an external connection. Keep the old server stopped but intact until the new one is proven.

Cut over

Update DNS or publish the new IP only after validation. Preserve the final backup and document the migration so the next move is repeatable.
